May is a month of abundance. The canopy fills out, casting dappled light below. Bluebells may still linger early in the month, joined by wild garlic in damper areas.
Birdsong reaches its peak, and fledglings begin to appear. You may hear the rapid chatter of long-tailed tits or spot young blackbirds testing their wings.
This is a wonderful time to slow down and soak in the richness of spring.
The woodland is vibrant with life — insects, birds and fresh foliage.
Habitat & Conservation Update
We monitor pollinator activity and woodland health. Late spring is ideal for:
Identifying areas needing future thinning
Assessing regeneration success
Recording butterfly populations
Healthy insect populations are critical for woodland food chains.
How You Can Help This Month
Take part in a butterfly count.
Avoid disturbing long grass or bramble patches where wildlife shelters.
Consider donating to support habitat surveys.
