Morning in My Kurwald

Even on a damp and chilly morning like today, there is still no better feeling than waiting for the sun to rise in the Pinewoods.  Sitting in the stillness, quiet, with phone switched off, the Kurwald takes over.  The silence and peace with the smell of the woods, it is my happy place.  Somewhere to forget all the woes of the world and the meetings lined up for this hectic day.  I close my eyes and my breathing slows as the woods wash over me.

All of a sudden the sky lightens and the birds start singing.  A Robin sat two metres from me is singing merrily to me, as if to say welcome back.  Very soon, the squirrels start scampering around, rustling in the fallen leaves, maybe searching for buried nuts to have for breakfast.  Loud scratching sounds as they chase one another up and down the pine trunks.  Slowly, the woods are waking.  I say good morning to a happy dog walker with her two dogs walking patiently by her side.  As she disappears in the distance, the mood changes as a lovely cocker spaniel runs frantically around me, excited by the freedom, chasing the birds and squirrels which scatter to safety.  The tranquillity is broken, again, and again a few minutes later, but no owner to be seen.  Peace briefly returns until the loud barking of different dogs in the distance, signals my queue to leave.  I bid farewell to my forest friends, my constant companions, which I love dearly.  Until tomorrow…WW
