Tour De Pinewoods Underway!

Bikes Decorated within The Pinewoods Harrogate as part of the Tour De France Grand Depart Celebrations

A number of decorated bikes have been placed around The Pinewoods Harrogate as part of Harrogate Borough Councils 101 Bicyclette initiative. The bikes have been decorated by Pinewoods Conservation Group, local businesses, schools and scout groups.

The bikes can be found on the main path to RHS Harlow Carr from Harlow Moor Road and will be in situ until after Le Grand Depart. Those taking part include Verity Frearson, Linden Homes, ADSA, Muddy Mutts, Cubs from 1st Pannal Scouts, Cubs from 20th Harrogate Scouts, Students from Highfield Eco Club at Harrogate Ladies College, Pannal School. Brackenfield School and Rasmus Design.

Neil Hind, PCG Chair said “We have been amazed by the interest and have had a lot of support from local businesses to make this happen. This has been a true collaborative effort that we hope has been fun for all those involved.

We do need to thank staff at Covance who donated bikes, the Resource Group who helped deliver them to be decorated, Butler & Oddie who build the amazing huge bird and hedgehog house, Get Smart Vehicle Dent & Scratch Repair who sprayed the bikes and Harrogate Borough Council for the donation of plants.”

A number of companies sponsored bikes that were decorated by the Pinewoods Conservation Group.

Matthew Stamford of Verity Frearson, who sponsored one of the 1st bikes, commented "We were delighted to sponsor one of the Pinewoods bikes and are hope both residents and the many visitors will come to see our and the other displays. We are just hoping these houses are not 'sold' before Le Grand Depart itself!"

Steve Woomble, sales director at Linden Homes North added: "We are delighted to support this exciting initiative, and to be a small part of what we all hope will be a hugely successful event for the area and the whole of the region. With plans for a new homes development in Harrogate in the coming months, we always welcome ways in which we as a developer can help, support and become involved with the local community and economic growth of the area."

Muddy Mutts of Harrogate offer dog walking & training, pet care & home boarding and is owned by Chrissy Beadle. "I am delighted, after many years of walking my own dogs in the Pinewoods, to now be supporting PCG as a corporate sponsor. The opportunity to be involved in the Harrogate 101 Cycles is a real privilege having lived in Harrogate all my life, I am now able to be part of a community initiative to support this fantastic international sports event - Tour de Yorkshire!"

The event has also seen huge interest from children within the region with some amazing designs.

Amy Chestnutt of HLC said "This project was led by our Highfield Eco Club supported by girls from College, but had the whole school involved in collecting colourful carrier bags and bottle tops. It also gave us some really good teaching opportunities around not only the Tour itself but on recycling and conservation. We were really pleased to be involved."

Locals and visitors are invited to come and visit the Pinewoods to not only admire the woods and scenery but the decorated bikes as well. Photographs of all bikes can be found on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/PinewoodsConservationGroup.
