New Pinewoods Web Site Launched Sat, 2014-02-01 22:02

A new web site has been launched for local charity, The Pinewoods Conservation Group (PCG).  The new web site, created free of charge by local business Yorkshire Websites, aims to bring together details of all projects and events the group is involved with. New members are also now able to sign up online via an interactive form.

The Pinewoods Conservation Group (PCG) is planning to take part in the Harrogate Council 101 Bicyclettes project. The council is encouraging local groups, volunteers and residents to get involved in the Tour De France by decorating bicycles and displaying them across our district.

Did you know that The Pinewoods is home to a large family of Pipistrelles bats! A number of bat boxed were placed in the woods a number of years ago and are inspected by a licensed bat handler at least annually.

Actual numbers have remained steady at just over 20 being found within the various bat boxes and are now seen as permanent residents.  These bats are accepted by HM Government as an environment performance indicator and are a protected species.

New Map and Leaflet Published - Valley Gardens to RHS via Pinewoods Mon, 2014-04-07 19:15

The RHS have recently published an update leaflet and map that shows the 1.5m walk from Harrogate Town Centre through Valley Gardens, the Pinewoods before reaching RHS Harlow Carr. A copy can be downloaded here or found at tourist informaiton.

Planting Underway at Irongate Field Wed, 2014-04-16 17:13

Planting has started at Irongate field as part of the Pinewoods Conservation Group (PCG) project to turn the area into a community green space. Wednesday 16th April saw the project get officially underway as part of RHS National Gardening Week with RHS Harlow Carr nominating this project as one they wanted to support. Joining RHS staff was members of the PCG along with students from Horticap and Harrogate District Biodiversity Action Group.

Irongate Field Open! Sun, 2014-07-20 08:20

Saturday 19th July saw the formal opening of Irongate Field on Harlow Moor Road, Harrogate with a Teddy Bears picnic. The formal opening, sponsored by Harrogate Spring Water took place at 1pm by Mayor Cllr Jim Clark in a rare moment of sunshine. Despite the mixed weather about 100 people attend, many with bears to see the field and enjoy food prepared by 20th Harrogate Scouts. There was also a “bested dressed bear” competition as well as a visit from a rather large bear!
